What is your approach to marriage counseling?
Marriages often fail before they are given a chance. My goal is not merely to solve problems but to create the relationship you have always dreamed of. Using research supported techniques I help the couple create a safe space where they can begin to truly see one another and deeply connect (often for the first time). In that safe space the couple is taught effective ways to dialogue and resolve the issues they are confronting. These new relationship tools are theirs to use when new issues arise in the future.
What type of personal issues do you treat?
Issues treated fall into two primary categories:
- The reduction and management of stress and dysfunction due to various life challenges such as parenting, marriage, relationship problems, job issues, health issues, grief and so on.
- The reduction and management of internal stress caused by specific mental and emotional patterns. These distorted patterns can lead to debilitating issues such as low self-esteem, negativity, irritability, anxiety, confusion and depression.
What parenting/family issues do you treat?
I work with the parents and children to create and implement interventions that can solve everyday behavioral problems, address fears, moods and anger, and improve the parent-child relationship.
My child is experimenting with drugs and alcohol, is that something you deal with.
Yes. Adolescent drug use is addressed together with other issues (social, emotional, psychological) that your child is likely experiencing.
Will we talk about my childhood?
You lead the therapeutic process. This is often not necessary to achieve one’s goals. However, if discussing your upbringing will lead to insight that can inspire change, then it may be helpful.
What are your specializations?

Do you accept insurance?
No. Please know that submitting claims to insurance companies forces the disclosure of a mental health diagnosis, and that information can stay with you forever. I value your privacy and prefer not to provide this information unless authorized by you. In couples and family counseling I will NOT offer a diagnosis. In those processes I am working with a relational dynamic and find it unethical to diagnose either or both of you. If you still feel it is necessary to go through your insurance, I do provide assistance so that you may file on your own. You would pay for the full cost of the session, then submit the insurance claim for personal reimbursement. I will provide you with a receipt that will help you facilitate this process.
